Strategies for Success in 4th Grade

  1. Make sure your child reads for at least 30 minutes each night.  Show interest in what they are reading. Ask your child questions about what they are reading. Help your child find books that are interesting to him.
  2. Help your child practice her basic math facts.  Much of the fourth grade curriculum is built on the expectation that students know their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Fourth grade math will be a much less stressful if basic facts are memorized.
  3. Make sure your child is doing his homework each night. Your child will have spelling, math, and reading homework each night, Monday - Thursday. Learning is like playing a sport. The more we practice the better we get. If students are not completing their homework regularly, they will most likely struggle in class. Do not be afraid to help your child with his homework. If you do not understand an assignment, please do not be afraid to contact me with questions.
